Style

Formerly an old school house, Platypus Bend has been extensively renovated and enlarged to feature four bedrooms and two bathrooms – comfortably and luxuriously sleeping at least eight adult guests.

Quality appliances including two ovens and an induction stove top plus a well equipped kitchen are perfect for self-catering in style.

In the lounge, there is a state of the art projector screen (for TV, movies or games) and, throughout the house, a multi-zone music system can be used to stream our music or share your own music.

There is enough WIFI for staying in touch but not for downloading movies.

Outdoors, there are decks on both sides and both floors and a gym for your exercise needs or to serve as a separate entertainment room for youngsters.

The gardens are truly beautiful and have subtle extensive LED lighting.  Perfect for an evening stroll or just to admire from the deck.

There is a causeway crossing to access the property and in heavy rain this can become unpassable. There is a footbridge to use in these circumstances which will be explained in more detail if necessary.

Children are welcome on the property and there is a large garden and lawn to play in – BUT no responsibility can be taken for children staying at or visiting the property.  Please supervise carefully taking into consideration the unfenced dam and creek, stairs, verandas, balconies, footbridge, jetty, snakes, spiders and cleaning chemicals.  If your child requires specialised items (for example cots or highchairs) please bring these with you.

Pet friendly but dogs only.  If you are planning on bringing your dog to Platypus Bend, you must first submit a written request to us stating the breed, temperament and other relevant information.   If approved we will confirm, in writing, with details of our dog do’s and don’ts.  If evidence of a pet is discovered without approval, you will be charged for additional cleaning, damage and fees.

A wildlife sanctuary

Half pasture, half bush.  From the extensive native plantings surrounding the house to the rising slopes of regenerated forest, enjoy a sea of green.

Explore the creek bank, hidden waterfalls or fern forests or sit back on one of the decks and let nature come to you.

It is possible to spot a myriad of birdlife, wallabies, echidnas, wombats, glowworms and even platypus if you sit quietly and know where to look.

In the pastures, we breed Scottish Highlander cattle famous for their long shaggy coats while the gardens provide fresh vegetables, herbs and eggs.

The bridge

The shallow causeway across the creek can become impassable for vehicles during high rainfall. Next to the causeway there is a quality engineered footbridge for use in these rare circumstances.

There is a flood level gauge on both sides of the causeway. Under no circumstances should you drive across if the water level is above 25cm (0.25m).

As the water flows over the causeway it is much stronger than in deeper parts of the river. If a vehicle is broadsided, it can be easily swept off. If in doubt, always leave your vehicle and walk across the footbridge.

If the water level warrants it, the property manager will arrange to meet you when you arrive to walk you across the footbridge and onto the house (approx 150m). The bridge, driveway and gardens are well lit.

Hopefully not, but for the duration of your stay you may need to walk from the house and across the footbridge to access your car.

The upside of this is that with the rain often come beautiful low clouds that hang below the escarpments, and waterfalls that run off them, surrounding the property which make for an amazing spectacle!
